Begin Reading the Bible
Here is a simple, step-by-step roadmap for where to go next, prioritizing clarity and spiritual growth:
*Why read MARK:* It is the shortest Gospel and acts as an action-packed, fast-moving biography of Jesus that gets straight to the point of His ministry.
**Step 2: The Book of Acts**
*Why read ACTS:* Written by the same author as the Gospel of Luke, this book tells the thrilling story of the very first Christians and the birth of the church.
**Step 3: The Book of Philippians**
*Why read PHILIPPIANS:* A short, encouraging letter in the New Testament (only 4 chapters). It is perfect for new believers because it focuses on daily living, prayer, finding joy, and how to treat others.
How to read the Bible
1. Build the Daily Habit
* **Develop a Routine:** Establish a daily quiet time. Start with a goal of 15 minutes a day at the same time and place.
2. Emphasize "Personal Revelation"
**Application Questions:**
A. **What does this teach me about God?** Look for what the passage reveals about God’s character, His promises, and His actions. How does He interact with His creation? What are His attributes (mercy, justice, love)?
B. **What does this teach me about humanity?** Observe the actions, struggles, motives, and faith of the people in the text.
C **How should I live in light of this?** Consider what God wants you to understand, believe, desire, or change about your daily behavior. Does the passage give a command to obey, an example to follow, or a promise to claim?
D. **Journaling:** Use a 3-step method (Read, Reflect, Respond). Write down a verse that stands out, journal what it means, and write a practical action step for the day.
3. Right Tools
* **Choose the Right Translation:** Choose a study-friendly Bible translation such as the NIV (New International Version) or ESV (English Standard Version).
Homework
Set aside a daily time for personal time with God, a “Quiet Time.” Aim for 15 minutes.
**Expect:** Spiritual battles, blessings, and answers to prayers.
**Remember:** Christianity is about a relationship with God, not rules.
